September is almost over – and we’ve been busy than ever! Our fundraisers have had another jam-packed month, and we can’t wait to share it with you! From bike rides to Ironman to our charity partners – everyone has been championing #TeamVelindre over the last few weeks! Now it’s time to take a look at what our brilliant fundraisers have been up to!
The Vale Velathon!

The event was a huge success with a great turn out – and the beautiful August sunshine only made the day even more special!
Richard Completes Run Norwich!

This month, Richard took on Run Norwich in aid of Velindre. We’re extremely grateful to Richard for his support for the charity – his fundraising efforts will ensure that patients and families at Velindre receive the care and support they deserve during such a difficult time.
For Richard, his choice to support Velindre is personal. He told us: “I want to try and raise some funds for the Velindre Cancer Centre, a wonderful place that have and are helping my much-loved Welsh Family”.
Richard – your kindness and generosity means the world to us! Diolch yn fawr!
Monmouthshire Law Society’s Ball in Aid of Velindre!

Monmouthshire Law Society held their annual ball and chose Velindre as their charity once again!
It was a truly fantastic night with talented entertainers, inspiring guest speakers, and lots of generous donations to Velindre.
What a special evening – made all the more special by knowing you have made an impact at the Hospital of Hope! We cannot thank Monmouthshire Law Society enough for everything they have done to support us – we’re so grateful that you continue to choose Velindre as your chosen charity!
Diolch yn fawr team!
Jazz Concert for Velindre!

Peter Marshall and his band held a Jazz sextet concert at St Catherine’s Church in Pontcanna, to raise money for Velindre and the Church.
It was a fantastic event and everyone enjoyed the show! We’d like to say a massive thank you to Peter and the Band for this extremely kind gesture. It’s so touching to see the charity being championed in the local community – and we wouldn’t be able to make an impact without the help of supporters like Peter. Thank you very much!
Morgan’s Epic Challenge for Mum!

Ironman Wales is one of the toughest challenges around – but Morgan was determined to take it on last month for a very special reason.
Morgan’s mother is currently being treated at Velindre for the second time. To show his support for her and raise some money for the hospital that has shown her such good care and support, Morgan took on the challenge in aid of Velindre. Morgan smashed the event and smashed his fundraising as well – raising over £8,760!
We are absolutely blown away by this total, and we can’t thank Morgan enough for his dedication and hard work. Thank you to everyone who supported Morgan’s fundraiser – including his club, friends, and family! Morgan – we are beyond proud of your incredible achievement and we hope you are proud of the difference you’ve made to patients just like your mum at Velindre! Diolch yn fawr!
Charity Partner Raises £1,000!

We’re delighted that our charity partner Christie Residential have raised an incredible £1,000 for Velindre! Throughout 2025, the team pledged to donate £100 for each completed house sale, and Velindre was one of their 3 chosen charities!
Simon English told us: “We chose to support Velindre Cancer Charity because their work is having a real impact on our local community. With the opening of the radiotherapy unit at Neville Hall Hospital, more patients from Abergavenny and the surrounding areas can access vital cancer treatment closer to home. As a business rooted in the local community, we wanted to support a cause that is improving lives, supporting families, and bringing world-class cancer care within reach of the people we serve every day. We are delighted to have been able to make a small contribution.”
Thank you so much to everyone in the team for working hard to support us – your funds will benefit patients, families, and staff in your local community!
Sara’s Half Marathon for Beloved Friend Christie!

In 2024, Sara’s best friend Kirsty was diagnosed with T2N1 Breast Cancer. Kirsty went through 6 rounds of chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, radiotherapy, and more. Sadly, six months later, Kirsty received the news that the cancer had spread and she was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Determined to stay positive, Kirsty is living life to the fullest and making lovely memories with her amazing circle of friends, who are always checking in with care packages or signing up to events to have raise money for charity.
One of these friends is Sara. Sara took on the Winchester Half Marathon in support of Kirsty – and has raised over £2,000 – way over her £500 target! Although the route was hilly and challenging at times, the sun was shining, and thinking about all her amazing donors and that fantastic fundraising total helped her power through when it got a bit tough!
We’d like to say a huge thank you to Sara for her incredible efforts! The money raised will go back into the services that have helped Kirsty throughout her treatment and ensure that patients like Kirsty receive care and support when they need it most. What a truly beautiful friendship – we’re so grateful that you chose to include us in this special show of support!
Lauren Smashes her 3-Challenge Fundraiser!

After completing her 30km run last month, Lauren took on the Copenhagen Half as part of 3 challenges she is completing in aid of Velindre.
For Lauren, this is a deeply personal challenge, as Velindre has become incredibly important to her family. Lauren told us: “Velindre is currently playing a significant role in our lives and the support, care and compassion we’ve experienced so far has been nothing short of amazing… I want to give something back to help them continue supporting other families when they need it most.”
Lauren’s goal is to raise £1,000 for Velindre – and she is very near her target! She is now looking forward to Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday – where she will be doing us proud as one of our #TeamVelindre runners!
Lauren – we cannot thank you enough for everything you have done in aid of Velindre! We can’t wait to welcome you on Sunday as you complete your epic series of challenges – diolch yn fawr!
Gareth Completes Ironman Wales for #TeamEvsy!

This month, Gareth took on Ironman Wales with a very special motivation.
10 years ago, his good friend Mike Evans, who completed Ironman 10 times, was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour. Mike, or Evsy as he was known, inspired so many of his friends and family with his determination – both in fighting his cancer and raising money for Velindre. Evsy encouraged a group of his friends to sign up for Ironman Wales – and #TeamEvsy 6:1 was born!
Gareth told us; “To this day, we still ride, run, and participate proudly in our #TeamEvsy kit, with Evsy as a continued source of inspiration”. The team even use Evsy’s favourite quotes to motivate them when the challenge gets tough: “Remember it’s a privilege!”.
We are so touched by the story behind #TeamEvsy – and we know that Evsy would be incredible proud to see his friends continuing his legacy of raising money for Velindre and taking steps to achieve Victory Over Cancer.
Thank you so much for your efforts Gareth and team!
Splash Dragons Make a Splash with their Latest Challenge!

This month, the Splash Dragons completed an epic 2-week challenge of each taking on 6 kilometres every day!
The team dedicated an incredible amount of time, energy and effort to completing the mammoth challenge – and they raised over £10,000! What an outstanding show of support for Velindre – we are truly blown away by this amazing fundraiser!
The team said: “That is what every cold morning; aching shoulder and seemingly endless length was really about: raising money, raising awareness and making sure people affected by cancer are heard.”
Thank you so much to the Splash Dragons for everything they have done and continue to do to champion the charity and cancer patients in Wales. Without you, our work would not be possible.
Pure Gym Fundraiser for PT Rachael!

At the end of this month, Pure Gym Cardiff Gate ran three huge classes at their clubs – all in aid of Velindre.
Their PT, Rachael Ford, is currently undergoing chemotherapy at Velindre, after receiving an Ovarian cancer diagnosis. The Pure Gym team have rallied around Rachael and decided to put on a huge display of fundraising to support her through this difficult time.
The classes were a huge success and have raised over £1,000 in just month. The team are blown away by the support they’ve received during their fundraising, telling us: “The community of members we have here at Cardiff Gate Pure Gym made all of this possible”.
Thank you so much to everyone who organised, participated, or donated to the fundraiser – we are so grateful for your support. Your funds will support patients like Rachael throughout their experience at Velindre.
Social Services Summiteers Conquer Snowdon!

This month, seven incredible social workers teamed up and took on the challenge of climbing Wales’ highest peak to raise vital funds for Velindre. On the 26th September, they completed the incredible summit and have already raised over £4,000!
For the team, this was a personal challenge and arriving at the top of Snowdon was very emotional. Hayley Baynham, one of the team, told us Velindre is “an incredible hospital that provides specialist treatment, care and hope to thousands of patients and their families”.
And through those tough, emotional moments, the team were motivated by those patients and families at Velindre. “Confronting the steep trails of Snowden is nothing compared to the hurdles cancer patients cross daily, and [the funds raised] will directly support their life-saving research and exceptional patient care.”
We cannot thank every single person enough for their dedication and determination on this amazing fundraising challenge! We are so grateful for your support – without people like you, we wouldn’t be able to make an impact throughout the services!
To our lovely Social Services Summiteers – diolch yn fawr! We can’t wait to see what challenge you take on next!
Chloe’s Delicious Bakes in Aid of Velindre!

Chloe and the team at Legal & General Cardiff held a bake sale in aid of Velindre this month – and the results look delicious!
This was a cause close to their hearts, as many people in the team have personal connections with Velindre. The team went full out – with green ballons, Velindre stickers, and even some tasty green decorations on their bakes!
The team told us: ” When we asked our wider team to vote for a charity to support, many chose Velindre because of personal experiences and the positive impact the charity has had on friends, family members and loved ones. As a team that supports people through difficult and sensitive life events every day, we understand the importance of compassion, care and being there when it matters most.”
What a fantastic show of support!
To everyone you donated, fundraised, or supported – thank you! Because of your kindness and generosity, we are able to continue the incredible work we do for patients and families at a time when they need it most.
We are beyond proud of everyone who has dedicated their time and effort in September – thank you for your incredible efforts!
We are so lucky to have fundraisers who continuously dedicate their time and effort to the patients, staff, and families at the Hospital of Hope. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to fund the support, research, and development at Velindre. We cannot thank you enough, and we can’t wait to see what October brings!
Feeling inspired by our amazing September fundraisers?
Why not give it a try…
