Years of fundraising efforts

Active Quote has always been involved in charity activities and events, Tracy explained to us. She organised an Endurance Challenge of the Welsh Three Peaks several years ago which went down really well with employees, and so when the company began working with Velindre, Tracy brought back the much-loved event for round two! The team took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks in 2023 in aid of Velindre, which was a huge success. Over 15 employees travelled up to Yorkshire and stayed overnight to tackle the challenge. Although it was incredibly tough, the majority of the team finished, which is a huge achievement!

The creativity doesn’t stop there! Tracy sparked another fundraising opportunity when she decided to hold a Toastie Day. For two hours, she stood in the office kitchen and made toasties for the team – and of course, it went down a treat! This developed into Toastie Tuesday. So, on the last Tuesday of every month, Tracy – armed with five loaves of bread and plenty of ham and cheese – charges £2 for a toastie with all proceeds going to Velindre. Delicious!

The team at Active Quote also participate in Wear Red every year and love keeping up to date with our social media channels to find out what else they can get involved in.

A special annual Golf Day

Another long-standing charity event held by Active Quote is their Charity Golf Day. An idea that blew up into an annual event, the Charity Golf Days are much loved by the team – and we were lucky enough to join them this year.

Strengthening their bond as a team

For Active Quote, fundraising isn’t just about making a difference to others – it’s about growing closer as a team. Tracy spoke to us about how their fundraising events have led to deeper connections with colleagues: “You get talking during an event and start a conversation you wouldn’t normally start”. It’s a way to bond and discover common ground with your team. Everybody signs up because they care about the cause.”

During our visit to their 2026 Golf Day, it was clear that the team truly love making an impact alongside each other. The camaraderie, positivity and excitement on the day was truly infectious, and we were very touched to hear Rob deliver a lovely speech at the beginning of the day about the charity and its impact in the community. There was a real sense of connection within the team, and it was lovely to see!

Seeing where the money goes

One of their highlights as a Charity Partner was their week-long volunteering experience at the summer fete with Senior Engagement Manager at Velindre Cancer Centre, Kate Hammond. During the week, they were given a tour of the hospital, which had a huge effect on them. Tracy told us “the thing that struck [her]” was that although Velindre cares for people who are going through some of the most difficult times in their lives, the atmosphere was so positive. “It was the people”, Tracy said. “Whether they were coming in [or out] of Velindre… they would always smile. They would always say hello.” The team found that such a small gesture made huge difference to them: “It was just a really nice feeling… a very friendly feeling”.

The team were also stunned by the range of areas that the charity fund. During their tour, they visited the family room and were shown our children’s books and lion teddies – all of which are funded through the charity. Tracy was particularly touched to learn about the Multi-faith services we fund, including the cost of weddings, anniversaries and birthdays. She told us: “To be able to give somebody something as special as getting married to somebody they love blows my mind. The way it can be… pulled together within literally hours is just incredible”.

Honouring personal connections

It was so impactful for the team to be able to see where exactly their funds were making a difference throughout the hospital – and even more so for Tracy, who has had several family members treated at Velindre. She opened up about her grandmother who sadly passed away from cancer, as well as her mother-in-law and sister-in-law, both of whom were treated for breast cancer at Velindre. Tracy spoke incredibly highly of the care at Velindre, not only for patients but for the entire family: “Knowing what Velindre offers to… the families of patients is remarkable. They are there to support you. They’re there to provide you with the care and the treatment and the support… needed. I think that is just invaluable, absolutely invaluable”.

Tracy knows that she is just one of many colleagues who have a personal connection to Velindre: “There are so many people out there that unfortunately ha[ve] been affected, whether they’re survivors, whether they’re people who unfortunately have lost people to cancer”. For Tracy and the team, having these experiences is what motivates them to fundraise – because they know the impact it can have on people who really need it. Tracy told us: “Knowing what you’ve provided for them during their time here… it goes a long way”.

Thank you on behalf of everyone at Velindre!

Active Quote has truly been an exemplary Charity Partner to Velindre, and we cannot thank them enough for all their fundraising efforts over the years. They have gone above and beyond for the charity – with every Toastie Tuesday, every Golf Day, and every step of their endurance challenges. The difference they have made to the lives of patients, families, and staff throughout the services is truly admirable.

It was a pleasure to speak to Tracy and find out about her own personal connection to Velindre, along with the wider team’s efforts to raise money and awareness for the charity. We’d also like to say a huge thank you to Rob and Tracy for accommodating us on their 2026 Golf Day, and making us feel more than welcome!

Tracy ended our conversation with a lovely sentiment: “Anything that we can continue to do, we will absolutely do. It’s that lasting impression, and that’s what Velindre does well”.

Thank you to Tracy and the whole team at Active Quote for your dedication to making a difference to cancer patients, families, and staff at Velindre – we would not be able to make our lasting impression without you!
