Velindre Cancer Charity is excited to invite you to take part in your next memorable — and importantly, meaningful — adventure, to help improve cancer patients lives across Wales.
In October 2027, we’re welcoming trekkers to join us on a truly unforgettable challenge: trekking the Ourika Valley in Morocco. This inspiring overseas hike combines adventure, community and purpose.
Our next team of Morocco trekkers will hike against the dramatic backdrop of the Atlas Mountains, enjoying breathtaking scenery and rich Moroccan culture – all with the shared purpose to achieve Victory Over Cancer for patients and their families across Wales.

Tackling Mount Toubkal: Velindre’s Morocco Trek 2023
In October 2023, a team of determined #TeamVelindre trekkers took on the mighty Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa at 4,167 metres.
This unforgettable five-day adventure included a challenging three-day trek through the High Atlas Mountains, tackling hot temperatures before reaching the epic summit — followed by well-earned celebrations in the beautiful city of Marrakesh.
The trek brought together a team of incredibly courageous and committed individuals. Some had personal connections to Velindre, and some simply wanted to show their support to the cancer service. They were joined by some famous faces and Velindre Ambassadors: Liam Reardon of Love Island, Rhod Gilbert (who took on the trek post-treatment), Derek Brockway, and Craig Maxwell.
Throughout the challenge, trekkers shared moments of determination, emotion and mutual support. The 2023 team reflected:
“The group were amazing. Inspirational and heartfelt stories were shared, emotional news from home filtered through, and everyone gathered to support one another.”
“While there were times I found it challenging — mainly due to the heat — looking back, I absolutely enjoyed every moment.”
“I loved the company, camping, food, atmosphere and mountains. Trekking by torchlight was a real highlight.”
“It was my first trek and more challenging than I expected, but I’m so proud to have completed it.”
Together, the team raised an incredible £116,756 – a truly life-changing amount that continues to make a difference for patients and families at Velindre’s Hospital of Hope.
Taking Steps Together: Vietnam Trek 2025
More recently, in November 2025, 54 #TeamVelindre fundraisers completed an inspiring 100km trek over six days in Vietnam.
Split into two teams, trekkers journeyed through traditional villages and paddy fields in Pu Luong, tackling steep climbs before being rewarded with stunning mountain views across Hoa Binh province.
As with all overseas challenges, lifelong bonds were formed through shared determination, teamwork and a collective passion for supporting Velindre — all while trekking approximately 5,800 miles from Velindre Cancer Centre.
One trekker shared:
“The group were great and made the trip so much fun. I loved being part of such a supportive community — they became my friends.”
Another #TeamVelindre member reflected:
“The trek was an amazing experience that I’ll never forget. I loved the stunning landscapes, meeting local people, the company on the trek — and the food!”
One participant described the scale of the impact:
“Such a privilege to be part of the Vietnam trek. The people, hospitality, scenery and support were humbling. And most importantly — a whopping £256,000 raised. A tough challenge, but a life‑affirming experience I’ll be forever grateful for.”
Training walks also played a key role in building team spirit:
“Everything was well organised and the group felt like a little family from the start — I think the training walks really helped with that.”
