Cracking Day, Cracking Cause: Gavin & Stacey Fans Step Up for Cancer
Barry Island was buzzing with energy as over 100 enthusiastic participants join us on the Gavin and Stacey Victory Over Cancer Walk; a heartwarming event that blended community spirit, pop culture nostalgia, and a powerful cause. Led by beloved Charity Ambassador and Weatherman Derek Brockway, the 6k walk went through the iconic seaside town, stopping at some of the most memorable filming locations from the hit TV show. With laughter, camaraderie, and a shared mission to support Velindre, this first of its kind event proved that when it comes to making a difference, every step counts.

The event saw participants dressed from head to toe as their favourite Gavin & Stacey characters, turning Barry Island into a walking tribute to the beloved series. From Nessa’s bold style to Uncle Bryn’s charm, the fancy dress brought smiles to passersby and created a joyful, inclusive vibe that welcomed families of all ages. It was a day full of laughter, connection, and purpose.
One of the highlights of the walk was the chance to visit some of Gavin & Stacey’s most iconic filming locations, bringing the show’s magic to life for fans of all ages. Walkers stopped by Marco’s Café, the beloved beachfront spot where many memorable scenes unfolded, and posed for photos outside Nessa’s Slots, where Nessa herself once manned the machines with her signature sass. The route also passed Stacey and Uncle Bryn’s house, sparking plenty of “Oh my Christ!” moments and nostalgic chatter among participants.
“This was our first ever Gavin and Stacey themed walk and we have to say, it was proper lush! It was such an uplifting day thanks to our brilliant participants and so many fantastic fancy dress outfits! We would like to say a big Thank You to everyone you joined us at Barry to help make this event such a huge success!”
