Big waves ahead: the Statue of Liberty Swim Challenge is coming in 2027!
Join the brand-new Statue of Liberty Challenge – an open water swim looping the incredible Statue of Liberty monument to raise vital funds for Velindre Cancer Service.
Following the outstanding efforts and popularity of the 2025 Alcatraz Swimming Challenge, we are back with another iconic swim event-this time in New York City! Choose between a 1-mile route looping around the Statue of Liberty herself, or take on the 2-mile swim spanning the Hudson River between Manhattan and New Jersey.
How to apply:
The application process is simple – complete the Expression of Interest form, which will be followed by a screening review of all applicants by Velindre Ambassador and Swimming Coach, Dave Tonge. Having successfully passed the screening, you’ll complete a formal application form & pay a £200 non-refundable deposit to Velindre Cancer Charity. Your spot is then secured!

The power of your support
Your contribution through registration and sponsorship would contribute to:
Free soft lion teddies for approximately 400 children, providing additional support and comfort to families experiencing a cancer diagnosis.
1-hour specialist counselling sessions, providing one-to-one wellbeing support for patients exactly when they need it.
A team of complementary therapists whose help can alleviate anxiety, cancer symptoms and treatment side effects for patients.
Collectively, donations raised through the Statue of Liberty Swimming Challenge can directly support one of the 40+ clinical trials active at Velindre today, or even fund up to 4 Clinical Nurse Specialist’s salary for a year.
