Palliative Care

We aim to respond rapidly to all referrals on patients who need support. Patients are seen at any stage of their disease if they have difficult symptoms that are not easily coming under control, such as pain and nausea and vomiting.

The department also works with families who have the difficult task of giving information to their relatives, particularly to children. Patients on the Active Support Unit remain under the care of their oncologists and are also secondarily under the care of the palliative care team.

The team aims at all times to improve the quality of life of patients and can be accessed through any of the oncology medical nursing staff – you only have to ask.

The Palliative Care department at Velindre Cancer Centre is world renowned and has 2 consultants and 2 specialist nurses.
