We were overwhelmed with the incredible response to our Wear Red for Wales and Velindre on Friday 2 February; schools, companies and individuals from all over the country managed to paint Wales red! There were thousands of messages on Twitter and Facebook, loads of photos and our partner Media Wales published stories as they were happening last Friday:

And remember the school or company that raises the most money by Wednesday 28 February will receive a visit from one of our celebrity supporters!

As Patron Sam Warburton says “Do a good deed with your school or workplace and help raise money for Velindre this February 2nd. It’s easy!! Let’s all join together in the battle to beat cancer”

The Wear Red For Wales And Velindre campaign aims to raise vital funds for Velindre Cancer Centre and show support for the Welsh Rugby team on the eve of their RBS 6 Nations opener when they take on Scotland at the Principality Stadium.

The 2018 Wear Red For Wales And Velindre campaign was launched with Velindre Patron Sam Warburton surprising pupils at Stanwell School earlier this week; the school had the reward of a visit from the Wales and British and Irish Lion captain at their Assembly, as they were the school that raised the most in the previous campaign.

See their reactions to this special surprise below!

Sam, a Patron at Velindre, said: “I really enjoyed being involved, and I think the pupils and staff appreciated the visit where I was able to explain the great work and support that Velindre provides to so many cancer patients and their families in Wales; and it’s also a great way to kick off the new campaign and I hope thousands will join me on 2 February 2018 when I will be wearing Red for Wales and Velindre again.”

Jonathan Davies OBE President of Velindre Fundraising said: “I think this is fantastic idea to get youngsters involved. Not only can they back Wales, which I know the players and coaches really appreciate, but they can also raise funds for a fantastic charity.”

“I’m sure that many of the pupils, parents, staff, teachers and head teachers in schools throughout Wales will in some way be affected by cancer so it would be superb to get their backing. I hope that hundreds of schools throughout Wales will take part."

Velindre supporters such as Martyn Williams, Rhod Gilbert, James Bradfield, Craig Bellamy, Matthew Rhys, Gareth Thomas and Jamie Roberts have all backed the campaign.
