We're delighted to announce that our wonderful Patron, Rhod Gilbert will be leading his fourth overseas trek for Velindre Fundraising in 2019 by taking us to Nepal!
Visit this stunning ancient kingdom and trek among the world’s highest mountains. The charm of Nepal is that it is largely without roads, and access is limited to ancient trails linking isolated villages where life and customs have changed little over centuries. Only on foot can you discover the true nature of the country. Our trek through the foothills of Helambu is stunningly picturesque with the peaks of the Jugal and Langtang Himals offering a very impressive backdrop to what is a charmingly unspoilt and un-trekked area.
Lying some 72 kilometres north-east of Kathmandu, the Helambu region, or Helmu as it is also known, consists of the country situated at the head of the Malemchi Khola (river). Bounded to the north by a wall of 5000 metre peaks which divide it from the Langtang Valley, it extends north-west to the Gosainkund Lakes and east towards the lower slopes of the Jugal Himal.
The Helambu region is particularly rewarding in the spring when the rhododendrons are in full bloom. Although the region is not endowed with some of the better known Himalayan giants, the peaks of the Langtang, Jugal and Ganesh Himals form a very impressive backdrop to what is a charmingly unspoilt and often, un-trekked area. Indeed, the people, country and views of the Helambu will come as a surprise to many in an area comparatively close to the Kathmandu Valley.
