Radiology

The Radiology Department here at Velindre Cancer Centre boasts some of the most state of the art diagnostic imaging equipment currently available.

From 64slice multi detector Computed Tomography scanner and Magnetic Resonance imaging through to Computed Radiography and the first full field Digital Mammography in Wales.

As a result the department can provide a comprehensive range of diagnostic services all in one department.

Situated in the core of the hospital, it is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of highly trained and motivated individuals. From Radiologists, Radiographers, Administration and clerical as well as technical support staff, the care and welfare of the patients are always paramount.

Each major modality is overseen by a Senior Radiographer and every examination is reported by a Consultant Radiologist thus ensuring that there is expertise at every step along the imaging pathway.

The department is also totally ‘filmless’ environment. This means that all examinations are stored digitally meaning that they can be securely viewed in any hospital and in any department simultaneously. So no longer the delay to send X ray films to the clinic or to the ward.

Doctors and other healthcare professionals have almost instant access to important diagnostic information.

Whilst nobody likes the thought of undergoing tests and procedures, we all know from time to time it’s for the best. So the team within the Radiology department aims to ensure that everyone who comes to us is treated with dignity and respect and as such we have been accredited with the EN ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System award.

I would like to show my appreciation to all of the staff who looked after me and cared for me. Nothing was too much trouble for them and with their love and care made a very difficult stay easier to deal with
Harold (Joe) Berry

Everyone seemed to have the gift of making you feel that you were the only one that mattered even though the Hospital was always full.
