Palliative Care Team

The Palliative Care department at Velindre aims to respond rapidly to all referrals on patients who need support.

Patients are seen at any stage of their disease if they have difficult symptoms that are not easily coming under control, such as pain and nausea and vomiting.

The department also works with families who have the difficult task of giving information to their relatives, particularly to children.

The palliative care department is world renowned and has 2 consultants and 2 specialist nurses.

Patients on the Active Support Unit remain under the care of their oncologists and are also secondarily under the care of the palliative care team.

The team aims at all times to improve the quality of life of patients and can be accessed through any of the oncology medical nursing staff – you only have to ask.

I would like to show my appreciation to all of the staff who looked after me and cared for me. Nothing was too much trouble for them and with their love and care made a very difficult stay easier to deal with

Everyone seemed to have the gift of making you feel that you were the only one that mattered even though the Hospital was always full.
