Mrs Jane George is a great supporter of Velindre Cancer Centre. Here’s her story…
“In May 2005 my husband Ron passed away with Cancer. I was feeling very low over the following months, I didn’t have any interest and life was very much on a downward scale.
One evening in October I was having a discussion with my sons and we all felt we needed to do something to give something back to Velindre Hospital for the wonderful care they gave to Ron through his illness, and for the support they gave us as a family.
That night we decided to hold a Charity Ball in memory of Ron. The date was to be the following March and the work began!
We started contacting family and friends, former colleagues and companies that I had worked with to sell tables and to source raffle and auction prizes.
The event was held at the Quality Hotel in Cardiff and the General Manager, Colin Woods, was a huge support throughout. The entertainment was provided by Wales’ own TV, West End and Broadway star James Fox and his band, and former Brother Beyond and Reality TV star Nathan Moore. Our MC for the night was Red Dragon’s Kevin Hughes, all of which gave their services free of charge.
The event was a huge success raising £5,000 and I have decided to make it an annual event for Velindre Cancer Centre.”
